About Me
Dr. Alp Özgün Börcek was born in Eskişehir in 1978. After
completing his primary and secondary education in Eskişehir,
he entered Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1996.
He graduated in 2002 and began his neurosurgery residency at
Gazi University Faculty of Medicine the same year.
During the final year of his residency, he received an AANS
International Travel Scholarship and worked as a pediatric
neurosurgery observer with Prof. Dr. James Rutka at The
Hospital for Sick Children, affiliated with the University of
Toronto.
After completing his compulsory service at Batman Regional
State Hospital between 2009 and 2011, he returned to Gazi
University, Department of Neurosurgery, Pediatric
Neurosurgery Division, where he worked with Prof. Dr. M.
Kemali Baykaner.
Dr. Börcek became an associate professor in 2015 and has
authored more than 70 scientific articles in national and
international journals, as well as 13 book chapters. He has
worked as a researcher in two international projects and led
a major TÜBİTAK-funded research project between 2011 and
2017. Since 2019, he has also worked with the Presidential
Digital Transformation Office on the use of artificial
intelligence in healthcare.
He is a member of several national and international
scientific societies. His main field is pediatric
neurosurgery, and many of his patients are children. He also
has long-standing experience in Gamma Knife radiosurgery for
both adults and children. He was appointed Professor of
Neurosurgery in 2022.
His clinical interests include childhood brain tumors,
endoscopic surgical procedures, congenital anomalies, Gamma
Knife radiosurgery, and skull shape disorders. He commonly
treats brain tumors, hydrocephalus, congenital conditions,
and cranial reshaping needs in children, and has actively
treated adult and pediatric patients with Gamma Knife
radiosurgery for more than 15 years.
Gazi University Faculty of Medicine, Department of
Neurosurgery, which holds international accreditation from
the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies, provides
care with advanced technologies including intraoperative MRI,
intraoperative CT imaging, neuronavigation, and endoscopy
systems.
